About Refugee Action and Insight Hub
Refugee Action exists to work with refugees and people seeking asylum who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We are a national charity with more than 40 years’ experience of working with people to secure the protection and support that they need to live with dignity and respect and build a new life in the UK. We do this by providing expert advice and casework, building the capacity of partner organisations and campaigning on the policies that affect them.
The Insight Hub is an established sector-wide initiative, which was created to connect, inform, and strengthen organisations working across the refugee and migration sector. We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Advisory Group to ensure that it is relevant and meeting sector needs.
About the Insight to Action Advisory Group
The Advisory Group plays a vital role in ensuring that the Insight Hub remains relevant, inclusive, and rooted in the needs and experiences of the sector.
As a member, you will:
- Help shape the strategic direction of the Hub.
- Contribute to decisions on the themes and topics we research.
- Ensure that insights from frontline organisations and people with lived experience reach funders, campaigners, and decision-makers.
- Act as a connector, helping the Hub strengthen relationships across the sector.
- Support efforts to make the Hub’s work more accessible and useful for all.
Who We’re Looking For
We are committed to ensuring the Advisory Group represents the diversity, creativity, and resilience of the refugee and migration sector. The role is open to individuals who are self-employed, as well as those who wish to contribute on a voluntary basis, with expenses covered in line with Refugee Action’s policies.
We’re looking for new members:
- Three new members who have held leadership or decision-making roles within refugee and migration organisations — including grassroots groups.
- We will prioritise leaders with lived experience of the asylum and immigration system, including lived experience of forced migration.
- The opportunity is also available on a voluntary basis for any applicants who are currently in the asylum system without the right to work.
We expect candidates to:
- Understand challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
- Offer their insights, ideas, and networks to help us grow and evolve the Hub.
- Commit to collaboration, inclusion, and sector-wide change.
What’s Involved
- Time Commitment: Approximately 2 hours per month / 6 hours per quarter (flexible, meetings held via Zoom).
- Term: 1 year, with the potential for renewal.
- Payment:
- Self-employed basis: £300 per day (7.5 hours) or £40 per hour,
- Voluntary basis: we will reimburse any expenses incurred as part of the role based on Refugee Action policies. Please get in touch to discuss.
